Nature & wildlife trip
If the challenges of everyday life are taking a toll on you and your relationship, and you're drawn to the idea of going away on holiday with your significant other to an island that has faded away in the memory of the modern world, here's your chance.
Kaprije is an island without any vehicles and machines making noises that drown out the soft whisper of the waves and the song of the crickets. There's an idyllic fishing village that has somehow managed to remain unspoiled by the uncontrollable march of tourism where you can find meditative peace even in the summer when the entire Mediterranean is flooded with tourists. As you lie on the beach, the gentle maestral wind alleviates the sweltering summer heat by carrying the scent of the sea with it; while the aromas of medicinal plants, grapevines, and olives spread from the island's interior. All that is left for you to do in this tranquil Mediterranean oasis is to unwind and completely detach yourself from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Kaprije is a small island in Šibenik's well indented archipelago. The island was named after the Mediterranean plant caper – the plant is best known for the edible flower buds (capers), often used as a seasoning, and the fruit (caper berries), both of which are usually consumed pickled.
Caper was probably abundant at the time the island was settled by the refugees from the mainland, during the Turkish invasion in the 16th and 17th century. They came there to work on the olive and wine groves owned by Šibenik‘s landowners and noble families. So, the islanders are traditionally fishermen as well as olive oil producers and wine-growers – that should mean that you can find some good local specialities there.
The parish church of Saint Peter dates from the 16th century, too. If you wish to see some other historical curiosities, you can enjoy exploring the underwaters as well... divers will be particularly interested to see one of the most attractive wrecks in the Adriatic: the warship Francesca da Rimini from 1944 which is located at the depth of 38-50m on the north side of the island.
If you're arriving by car, your hosts will be waiting for you at the entrance to the town of Šibenik and then escort you to the free parking-lot where your car will be stationed during your stay on Kaprije. If you're arriving by bus or train, they will welcome you at the station and transport you to the port.
You will depart for Kaprije together with your hosts and head to your apartment with luggage in tow. As a sign of welcome, you will be treated to lunch – grilled fish or oysters "na buzaru" (a traditional Dalmatian recipe made exclusively from local ingredients). After lunch, it's time to unwind and relax and then take your first stroll through the village. Kaprije cove is naturally shielded from all winds, and at sundown it twinkles with the light emanating from the masts of sailboats that enter the port and are anchored here after a day's worth of cruising through the neighbouring Kornati archipelago. This is the only village on the island with a hundred or so permanent residents, a post office, outpatient clinic, shop, a few quaint bars, and a dozen restaurants highly praised by yachters, where you can try some of the local specialities. You will fall in love with this place instantly.
Your job is to get to Šibenik, and then relax and let your hosts take care of everything else.
Buzara is a popular cooking method for seafood in coastal Croatia. It is an excellent, simple and delicious recipe.
Enjoy your morning cappuccino on the patio covered with white sea pebbles and shaded by grapevines, and then go on a tour of the island with your host who speaks English, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. On this inspirational walk, you will listen to stories about life on this tiny island, the Mediterranean aromatic plants, the sea, and your immediate surroundings. During the walk, you are bound to find the perfect spots for meditation and connecting with nature. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and unwinding by the pool or the sea and take in the scents and sounds of nature. Overnight stay.
If you would like to meet some locals and have some fun, join them in the evening in playing balote (traditional Croatian bowling game).
Make sure you have a hearty breakfast because, afterwards, your host is taking you on a wonderful full day private boat excursion to Kornati National park, a nautical paradise comprised of 89 unforgettable islands, islets and rocks. On the way to Kornati and back, you might stop for a swim at some of the gorgeous beaches on the islands that you will be passing by (during the summer months). Navigating through the hidden coves and beneath the tall cliffs, so close that you can almost touch them, will forever be imprinted on your memory.
The host will stop the sailboat in one of the secluded coves so that you can grab a bite to eat from your lunch basket in peace, after which you will continue your trip with the option to go sailing. Additionally, you can also take part in the fun activity where the swimmer is being towed by the boat (weather conditions permitting). If you prefer fantastic views to swimming, you can go hiking to the top of the cliff. Those looking for an adrenaline rush will have the option of diving into the sea from the cliffs and then snorkelling under the cliffs and staring into the underwater abyss. Filled with impressions, return to your apartment or take a stroll through the village and have dinner.
Spend the days unwinding, meditating and exploring the island.
Your host will hand you a map of the beaches, some of which can be reached by bike or on foot; while others can only be accessed by boat. If you know how to pilot a small boat, you will have a 3m-long Yamaha boat with a 5 hp outboard motor at your disposal for an entire day of exploring the pristine beaches of Kaprije and the surrounding islands and even fishing, if you're in the mood.
Fans of biking and hiking will receive bikes and the host will give you a hiking & biking map and explain all the details, so that you can choose a trail with a difficulty level that suits you best.
If you feel like spending some time on land, we recommend that you visit the town of Šibenik. You can obtain the Fast ferry (catamaran) schedule from your host as soon as you arrive on the island. Šibenik is a treasure trove of culture and it bears witness to the rich and formidable history of Dalmatian cities. This royal Croatian city has been conquered by numerous rulers during its tumultuous history, which is why it boasts impressive examples of fortification architecture, such as the four stunning forts, which are the city's most popular tourist attractions along with the famous Cathedral of St. James. Go sightseeing and shopping, if necessary, and then head back to Kaprije with another wonderful experience under your belt.
We can also offer you an optional full day boat excursion to Krka National Park or Skradin, to be more exact, which is one of the entrances into this vast and exceptionally valuable nature area. From source to estuary, the Krka River weaves a maze of lacy masterpieces with more than 17 natural waterfalls, which are revealed in their full majestic splendour every morning by the first rays of sunshine. Skradinski Buk is the longest and most beautiful waterfall on the Krka River as well as one of the most famous natural wonders of Croatia. The beauty of the Krka River provides an unparalleled nature experience, as though you are entering the snapshot of the exact moment time decided to forever stop.
If you're up for some extra excursions inside of the Krka National Park, our reliable partner specialised in this area offers bike tours, boat tours and wine tours, and there is no other tourist agency that has a permit to take you to all these extraordinary places.
Time to pack and check out. Say goodbye to your hosts, who will escort you to the place where they greeted you when you first arrived. Bon voyage!
