Spending three days surrounded by nature, tasting local specialities and getting acquainted with the culture and customs of Croatian countryside region of Hrvatsko Zagorje is certainly something you must consider if you're looking for an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! From the top at approximately 300 m above sea level, there is a stunning view of the surrounding Zagorje hills dotted with houses, wine cellars and small churches.

The Vuglec Breg tourist village is the embodiment of the creative vision of the Vuglec family who want their ancestors' heritage to have lasting value.

The estate of Vuglec Breg stretches over 12 hectares. You can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding hills dotted with houses, cottages and churches from the house situated on a small hill.

The estate itself boasts a number of autochthonous Zagorje region houses (hiža) converted into accommodation for tourists. Along the houses, there is a restaurant situated next to the vineyard and a pergola, a wine cellar and a seminar hall.

On the estate, you can visit a horse barn, walk around lawns and walking trails with a little pond, have some recreation on two tennis courts and two five-a-side football fields.

Each of the houses has been upgraded and renovated in a traditional style with a unique and simple interior design. There is a restaurant next to the house, while a grill gazebo, bread oven and summer terrace are located in front of the vineyard. There you will also find a horse stable, a small lake, 2 tennis and futsal courts, a children's playground, lawns and walking trails.

Before dinner, treat yourself (payment on spot) to some home-made rakija (fruit brandy), such as šljivovica (made from plums), travarica (made from herbs), lozovača (made from grapes) and many other types at the Pelnica bar, which is located in the restaurant.

Day-by-day itinerary

DAY 1

Autochthonous tourist village Vuglec Breg, couple antistress massage

Arrival to Vuglec Breg and check-in at an autochthonous Zagorje hiža. A bottle of sparkling wine extra brut will wait for you at your room.

You can take a mountain bike and explore the countryside.

In the afternoon take a break and pamper yourself with the 30-minute couple antistress massage.

You will be having dinner at a typical Zagorje restaurant where you will be served local specialities. Witness a revival of old and forgotten recipes used to prepare meals with home-made products and local foods “just like grandma used to make”.

DAY 2

Excursion to Kumrovec, use of Thermal baths

A hefty Zagorje breakfast will energise you for the visit of the Old Village Museum in Kumrovec, the only location in Hrvatsko Zagorje that provides visitors with an authentic look at the early 20th century Zagorje village and the birth house of Josip Broz Tito, former communist leader who ruled Yugoslavia during the Cold War.

The Old Village Museum in Kumrovec is famous for its thirty vernacular buildings, preserved or restored, where the museum exhibitions are staged. They show the traditional way of life in the Sutla area as it was at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Josip Broz's family household is situated at the outskirts of the village and contains historical and ethnological display. Besides its architecture, the museum shows objects thematically exhibited according to various crafts and customs typical for Hrvatsko Zagorje region.

Lunch at the Zelenjak local restaurant. Surrounded by the ruins Cesargrad in significant landscape Zelenjak, at the entrance to the Municipality of Kumrovec, is a monument to the Croatian anthem "Our Beautiful Homeland".

In the early afternoon enjoy the swimming pools in the Aquae Vivae Thermal Spa centre in Krapinske Toplice or in the thermal baths of Tuheljske toplice.

Dinner at the restaurant at the estate . Experience pairing food dishes with local wine. As culinary traditions in a region developed, so too did local winemaking tradition.

DAY 3

Check-out

Breakfast and check-out. If you are looking for a souvenir, Licitar (gingerbread) heart or unique locally produced wooden toy are the way to go. Both are inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
