Who wants to go to the wine cellar? :)
The estate of Vuglec breg stretches over 12 hectares. You can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding hills dotted with houses, cottages and churches from the house situated on a small hill.
The estate itself boasts a number of autochthonous Zagorje region houses (hiža) converted into accommodation for tourists. Along the houses, there is a restaurant situated next to the vineyard and a pergola, a wine cellar and a seminar hall.
On the estate, you can visit a horse barn, walk around lawns and walking trails with a little pond, have some recreation on two tennis courts and two five-a-side football fields.
Arrival to Vuglec breg and check-in at an autochthonous Zagorje hiža. Each of the houses has been upgraded and renovated in a traditional style with a unique and simple interior design. There is a restaurant next to the house, while a grill gazebo, bread oven and summer terrace are located in front of the vineyard.
There you will also find a horse stable, a small lake, 2 tennis and futsal courts, a children's playground, lawns and walking trails. You will also be having dinner at a typical Zagorje restaurant where you will be served local specialties. Witness a revival of old and forgotten recipes used to prepare meals with home-made products and local foods “just like grandma used to make”.
Before dinner, treat yourself to some home-made rakija (fruit brandy), such as šljivovica (made from plums), travarica (made from herbs), lozovača (made from grapes) and many other types at the Pelnica bar, which is located in the restaurant.
Visit some of the museums in Zagorje, such as the Krapina Neanderthal Museum or the Old Village Museum in Kumrovec, the only location in Hrvatsko zagorje that provide visitors with an authentic look at the early 20th century Zagorje village and the birth house of Josip Broz Tito.
A hefty Zagorje breakfast will energise you for your first countryside activity. You will retrieve an axe and a log from firewood shed named Saloon and test your strength by chopping wood while contemplating how this activity used to be a daily occurrence in the countryside. You can also take on another assignment – grab a shepherd's crook and go to the fenced off area where a flock of sheep is waiting for you to guard them for a morning.
After these activities you might want to treat yourself to a well-deserved break. If you decide to spend that break at the thermal swimming pool at the Aquae Vivae water park in Krapinske Toplice, you can use a 20% discount on the tickets.
In the evening, you will visit a wine cellar. Enjoy tasting sparkling wine produced using the Champagne method, as well as white and red wines, such as Chardonnay, Rhein Riesling or others that are bound to satisfy wine connoisseurs. Dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Varaždin, a city in the north-west of Croatia known for its exquisite artistic and cultural heritage and its well-preserved and rich Baroque urban core is only 54 km away.
Breakfast and check-out. If you have some spare time, we recommend visiting the Croatian Marian shrine in Marija Bistrica and buy a Licitar (gingerbread) heart or a wooden souvenir. Marija Bistrica also has the most registered old craft shops in Krapina-Zagorje County, including the county's only blacksmith. The Licitar hearts and the unique wooden toys are inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
