The most famous wine from the island of Krk is Žlahtina, a mysterious wine from the town of Vrbnik. The world grape variety database contains DNA data for most known grape varieties, but Žlahtina somehow remains a secret. The Vrbnik variety has been thoroughly analysed, but its DNA doesn't match any of the known grape cultures in the world. Its name is derived from the old Slavic word ‘žlahten’, which means noble. It is best served chilled between 8 and 12 °C.

Žlahtina is the best-selling bottled wine in Croatia. Almost a million bottles are sold every year. It is also used to make Valomet sparkling wine, which is unique for being fermented under the sea.
Arrival in the small town of Vrbnik on the island of Krk by your own transportation. Check-in at the Vinotel Gospoja Hotel, where your hosts will present you with a complimentary bottle of wine (per room). Free time to relax in the hotel indoor swimming pool or use the Wellness & Spa zone.
In the evening, take a stroll and explore the old town where you can find a number of inns and restaurants with a long tradition of preparing local delicacies from Vrbnik, which you can wash down with a glass of premium Žlahtina wine.
After a rich buffet breakfast, you'll experience a guided tour of Vrbnik, which is famous for winemaking and the Žlahtina grape variety. This ancient, stone-built town, that appears to be emerging from the sea and immersing into the blue sky above it, was built in harmony with nature and has always been a place ideal for artists. You can enjoy a guided tour of the historic town centre featuring the parish church; also you’ll see Klančić - one of the narrowest streets in the world, Dverčić - the small town gate and an old mansion that was once the property of the noble Frankopan family.
A street that goes between the parish church and the belltower will bring you to a belvedere with a beautiful view on mainland, and if you continue walking down you will see the remains of the town wall and tower.
Visit to the Vitezić family library, with the reconstruction of a Renaissance printing machine. You could see also a very rare and valuable atlas “Atlas scolasticus itinerarius” by Johann David Koehler, printed 1718 in Nürnberg. Time at leisure.
